In conjunction with the special exhibition Violence and Virtue: Artemisia Gentileschi's Judith Slaying Holofernes, Jesse Locker, Portland State University, discusses issues raised in his book "The Hands of Aurora": Artemisia Gentileschi and Her Contemporaries. This lecture will explore Artemisia Gentileschi's portrayals of virtuous and violent women, considering the context in which they were created and their reception by the artist's contemporaries.
