Gallery Talk: "Provoke: Photography in Japan between Protest and Performance, 1960-75"

April 18, 2017
Meet in Gallery 100
Free with museum admission

Join Matthew Witkovsky, Richard and Ellen Sandor Chair and Curator of Photography, to delve into the history of the Provoke, a short-lived Tokyo magazine that featured progressive art photography and cultural criticism. This exhibition is the first anywhere in the world to provide a thorough history of the movement and to draw out the many connections between photography, political protest, and performance in postwar Japan.
