Family Festival: Diwali

Join us to celebrate the Hindu festival of light! Create a work of art inspired by Indian traditions at activity stations throughout the Ryan Education Center, such as the Little Studio for our youngest visitors (under age 5). Discover Hindu stories by exploring sculpture in the galleries with a costumed dancer. Enjoy dance performances by Kalapriya in a range of styles from Bhangra to Bollywood.

Registration is not required for this event.

Dance From Bhangra to Bollywood!
11:30, 12:30, 1:30, and 2:30
Studio A
Enjoy a short dance performance led by Pranita Jain, and then join in a community dance, learning new steps and movements as you go.

Art Activity: Diwali Lanterns
Studio B
Create a paper lantern to spread the light of Diwali.

Art Activity: Rangoli
Classroom 5
Work with colorful materials to create a rangoli, a large floor design, traditionally made from colored powder or sand.

Family Mini-Tour: Gods and Heroes
Vitale Family Room
Discover stories of the brave gods and heroes represented in the galleries of Indian, Southeast Asian, and Himalayan art in this self-guide.

Family festival Computer Interactive: Curious Corner
Vitale Family Room
Explore stories of the Hindu god Ganesha in Curious Corner, a computer interactive, designed to help children learn about the Art Institute’s collection

Explore the light of Diwali through age-appropriate activities that engage the senses and spark the imagination.

Explore sculpture in the galleries through a mixed media studio project with artist Leslie Baum.

Hindu Stories through Dance

Discover stories through exploring sculpture in the galleries with a costumed dancer.
