Joaquín Torres-Garcia (Uruguayan, 1874–1949) was inspired in equal parts by European avant-garde movements and Pre-Columbian art and architecture. Research Associate Katja Rivera will address how these multiple inspirations helped Torres-Garcia formulate a new type of modern art.
