Conversations: The Modern Series

April 23, 2015
Meet in Gallery 182
Free with museum admission

After the horrific destruction of World War I, facial reconstructive surgery became an integral part of life in the postwar years. Stephanie D'Alessandro, curator of Modern Art, and facial plastic surgeon Dr. Regan Thomas discuss how reconstructive surgery reconstituted the broken postwar face and body, and how our views of "wholeness" and beauty have changed in the intervening years.

These 30-minute in-gallery conversations explore the parallels between the radically changing society of a century ago reflected in the artwork in Shatter Rupture Break and the disruptions of our digital age.

Registration is not required for this program.
