Conversation: Visible Histories, Part Two—The Formation of the Illinois Institute of Technology

April 2, 2016
Chicago Bee Library

The Art Institute of Chicago in partnership with the Chicago Public Library presents Visible Histories, a new series that connects art with topics from CPL’s One Book, One Chicago selection, The Third Coast, by Thomas Dyja. Each portion of this three-part series consists of two program parts: an engaging dialogue about local history at a CPL branch followed by a companion gallery experience that explores related artworks.

Join Alison Fisher, Harold and Margot Schiff Associate Curator in the Department of Architecture and Design, and artist and trained architect Amanda Williams as they discuss the formation of the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) and its impact on the legendary Mecca Flats and the surrounding community of Bronzeville. A related gallery talk takes place at the Art Institute of Chicago on April 14 at 6:00.

This event takes place at Chicago Bee Library at 3647 South State Street, Chicago, IL 60609.
