Sun Ra was a big band innovator and Afrofuturist pioneer who greatly influenced contemporary music—from jazz and soul to hip-hop. His legacy lives on through the Sun Ra Arkestra, 14+ musicians who trained and toured with Sun Ra until his death, and continue to play his revolutionary music under the direction of alto-saxophonist and longtime Sun Ra collaborator, Marshall Allen. This performance is presented on the occasion of Never a Lovely So Real: Photography and Film in Chicago, 1950-1980
