Extensions Out: Mike Reed's "Flesh and Bone"

November 20, 2015
Fullerton Hall
$10 members and students, $15 nonmembers

Jazz drummer Mike Reed presents Flesh and Bone, a world-premiere composition reflecting on matters of race and identity in the changing Western world, inspired by his band's 2009 encounter with a neo-Nazi rally and riot in Europe.

Over the last two decades, Reed has emerged as a dominant force within Chicago’s artistic community, both through his music and the live events he produces. In addition to leading three bands, all rooted deeply in jazz and improvised music, he is founding director of the Pitchfork Music Festival, the current programming chair of the Chicago Jazz Festival, and the owner and director of the acclaimed performing arts venue, Constellation.
