>There is an absence of belief in God in Buddhism, but not an absence of belief itself. University of Michigan’s Donald Lopez is a leading scholar of Buddhism, particularly how the western world encountered, explored, and in some cases embraced it. Lopez comes to the Chicago Humanities Festival to remind us of the varieties of belief required by the Buddhist path, including rebirth and the infinite perfectibility of the human mind.
