Bus Tour: Landscape Suburbanism

October 3, 2013

Landscape urbanism is a new trend in city planning that emphasizes landscape and process over architecture and form. Join Barbara Geiger to explore these same principles in suburbia. In Wilmette, visit the Baha’i House of Worship to learn about the history of the building, gardens, and faith. Then take a driving tour of the Glen, a new planned community on the site of the former Glenview Naval Air Station. After lunch at Wildfire, drive to an unusual enclave developed by Daniel Burnham’s nephew. Our final stop is Kennicott’s Grove, a National Historic Landmark, for a walking tour of the prairie, house, and archives that feature the collections, writings, and original metal coffin of early naturalist (and founder of the Chicago Academy of Sciences) Robert Kennicott.
