Bus Tour: Arts and Crafts on the North Shore

September 20, 2013

Explore the charm and simplicity of the Arts and Crafts movement with Barbara Geiger. Our first stop is Crab Tree Farm. Designed in 1911 by Solon Beman as a model dairy farm for Grace Durand, the buildings now house the finest collection of American and English Arts and Crafts furniture and decorative arts in the United States. After lunch at Market House on the Square, we’ll visit Ragdale. Built in 1897 by architect Howard Van Doren Shaw as his summer home, the grounds now serve as an artists’ community. End the day at the privately owned House of the Four Winds (1908), featuring an interior that combines Arts and Crafts and Moorish influences, a Jens Jensen landscape, and a garden designed by Rose Standish Nichols.
