Building on the traditions of minimalism and post-minimalism, Richard Rezac’s balanced and elegant sculptures are brought to life through various materials like painted and unpainted wood, cast iron, bronze, aluminum, and silk. The Chicago-based artist works both intuitively and through predetermined, mathematically-based propositions; his works are often initiated with geometric drawings. Articulating a formal vocabulary filled with personal nuances and cultural allusions, Rezac’s work breathes vitality into abstraction by layering multiple meanings and references in finite forms.
