The conceptual driven practice of Matt Mullican (born 1951) revolves around semiotics and subjectivity. Often working in a state of altered consciousness such as hypnosis, Mullican creates drawings, prints, sculptures, videos, and installations that explore the friction between systems of knowledge and the personal psyche. Mullican’s efforts at coding and decoding the self map out a fluid, liminal space on the edge of the subconscious.
