Visual art and art museums can be powerful tools for language development and expression. In particular, they can help World Language and English Language Learners (ELLs) encounter language in dynamic ways, build vocabulary, and make sense of new cultural contexts. Drawing on research and practices that stress the importance of developing students’ use of academic language, this workshop will examine different strategies for using works of art to foster the use productive conversations across all areas of the curriculum. This program includes facilitated experiences in the galleries and ideas for using printed materials and online resources.
