Employment FAQ

How can I find out about open positions available at both the museum and the school?

Positions are updated every Thursday on this website under Job Openings. Additionally, available positions are often advertised on various career websites (i.e. Careerbuilder,, Craigslist, etc.).

Should I mail, e-mail, or fax a copy of my résumé to Human Resources?

No, if you are interested in applying for job openings, you must complete your application online

What happens to my application/résumé once I submit it?

Once an application/résumé has been submitted, we will review your background and qualifications for the specific job for which you've applied.

How long does it typically take to hear back about a job?

Please understand that the review process can take considerable time to complete, and you will be contacted if we determine that an interview is appropriate.

Is there someone I can call to follow up on my application?

Unfortunately, due to the large volume of applications for jobs that we receive at the Art Institute of Chicago, you will be contacted only if an interview is deemed appropriate.

What are the Art Institute's normal business hours?

The museum's offices are open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, while the School of the Art Institute is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The standard work week for most employees is 35 hours. Weekend and evening work is required for some positions.

How do I get to the Art Institute?

Conveniently located in Chicago's Loop, the Art Institute of Chicago is accessible by public transportation including bus, el, and commuter train. The museum's address is 111 South Michigan Avenue, which is across from Millenium Park at the intersection of South Michigan Avenue and Adams Street.

How can I find out about internships?

All available internships are updated and listed on our website.

Which internships are paid?

Internships pay status will be included in the posting.

Do you offer housing?

Housing arrangements are not provided for interns. It is the intern's responsibility to obtain his/her housing. However, we do have dorm rentals for summer interns. Contact the School of the Art Institute's Department of Residence Life at (312) 629-6870 for more information.

How long does it typically take to hear back about an internship application?

A large number of internship applications are received, making it difficult to process them all quickly. Those applicants selected for an interview will be contacted by phone or e-mail.

Is there someone I can call to follow up on my internship application?

Due to the large number of applicants, we contact only those applicants selected for an interview.
