Artworks occasionally go off view for imaging, treatment, preparation for Art Institute exhibitions, or loan to other institutions. If there is a particular artwork you’re hoping to see on your visit, please check our online collection to make sure it is currently on view.

The Thorne Miniature Rooms will be closed April 22 for lighting upgrades.
Painting and Sculpture of Europe galleries 223, 224, 225, and 226 will be closed for updates and painting through May 3.
Architecture and Design galleries 283–285 are currently closed for a redesign. The permanent collection space, Gallery 285, is expected to reopen in late August, and the exhibition space, Gallery 283, will follow in late September.
Arts of Africa Gallery 137 may be closed July 11 pending reinstallation plans.
Arts of the Americas Applied Arts of Europe galleries 231–234 are closed for renovation and refresh and expected to reopen by April 2025.
