The Art Institute's
collection of art from India,
the Himalayas, and
Southeast Asia includes
more than 1,900 objects that span nearly five millennia. Indian and Southeast
Asian sculpture and Indian and Persian
miniature paintings are among the museum's archaeologically and artistically
significant works. As objects of worship or accounts of history, these
works present a fascinating picture of the region's religions, including
Hinduism,
Buddhism, and Islam,
as well as its governments and politics. |
