Annual President's Lecture: A World Connected--Why Do We Leave Home?

Nayan Chanda, Director of Publications, Yale Center for the Study of Globalization discusses his new book Bound Together: How Traders, Preachers, Adventurers and Warriors Shaped Globalization. "We humans have been on the move ever since our ancestors stepped out of Africa and began spreading to the ends of the earth. To trade goods, to win converts to their faiths, to search for a better and fulfilling life and to dominate others, generations of humans have crossed oceans, mountains and deserts. In the process, they have produced the interconnected world that we term as 'globalization.'"

Presented with the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the Chicago Humanities Festival 2008.
