St. Joseph Hospital in Tacoma is a 260-bed, 11 story hospital with a quatrefoil bedtower, supported by concrete columns that pierce a rectilinear base building. The interiors of the bedtowers are completely columnless, made possible by the duality of the poured concrete exterior shell walls, which function both as the tower's "skin" as well as its primary structural component.
