Myth, Magic, and Art: A New Year’s Celebration in Oaxaca

Join Jack Perry Brown—the Art Institute’s executive director of libraries, a former resident of Oaxaca, and an authority on Mexican art and culture—for a weeklong New Year’s celebration in the beautiful colonial city of Oaxaca. Visit the archaeological site of Mitla, where magnificent decorative motifs adorn palace walls; golden-hued colonial churches and monasteries, offset by the brilliant colors of native textiles and woodcarvings; and the spectacular towering pyramids and mountaintop setting of Monte Albán, one of Latin America’s most awe-inspiring ancient sites. Also meet with some of Mexico’s finest artists, artisans, and collectors in galleries and private homes. A festive New Year’s Eve dinner with entertainment and music complete this colorful program.   Octolan church Octolan church. Oaxaca, Mexico.
