Rome and Tuscany: A Family Learning Adventure

Gather the generations of your family, and join Vince Micheal, John H. Bryan Chair of Historic Preservation at the School of the Art Institute, on this adventure for art lovers of all ages. Explore Florence’s medieval core, including the graceful Ponte Vecchio; the imposing Duomo flanked by Giotto’s Campanile and the Baptistery; Michelangelo’s 500-year-old masterpiece
David at the Accademia Gallery; and the secret rooms of the Palazzo Vecchio. In Rome, visit ancient sites including the Forum and Coliseum, and enjoy a morning visit to the Vatican as well as special entrance to the Vatican Museums, the treasures of the Sistine Chapel, and Michelangelo’s Pieta in St. Peter’s Basilica. Educational highlights include formal lectures and a cooking demonstration at a renowned Tuscan culinary academy for adults. Children ages 7 to 17 take part in activities focused on local art and history through the Young Ambassador Program. The Black Sea: Crossroads of Culture from the Ancient Past to the Present

| Explore the scenic and historic Black Sea region aboard the all-suite Corinthian II with Paula Wisotzki, adjunct lecturer in the Art Institute’s Department of Museum Education. Begin in Istanbul, with tours of the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, the Blue Mosque, and the Grand Bazaar. Then, embarking Corinthian II, travel to Varna, Bulgaria, and visit the Cathedral of the Assumption, the Archaeological Museum, the remains of the Roman baths, the Church of Sveti Atanas, and Evksinograd Palace. Tour UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Bucovina, Romania. In Odessa, Ukraine, visit the Opera House, the Potemkin Steps, and the Archaeological Museum. Tour Sevastopol’s Panorama Museum and Bakhchysaray’s Khan’s Palace, then sail to Yalta for visits to splendid Alupka and Livadia palaces. Continue to Amasya, Turkey for a guided tour of the 16th-century Sultan Beyazit Mosque. Conclude in Istanbul. |
