Experience the artistic synthesis of ancient and modern Japan, as interpreted by Stanley Murashige, associate professor of art history, theory, and criticism at the School of the Art Institute. Begin in Tokyo with a visit to the Asakusa Temple of the Goddess Kannon, the Edo History Museum, Tokyo International Forum, the Roppongi Hills, the Mori Art Museum, and the
Meiji Shrine. Travel to Himeji via bullet train to explore Himeji Castle. Continue to Hiroshima, featuring a visit to Peace Memorial Museum and Park and an excursion to Itsukushima Shrine on Miyajima Island. Continue to Naoshima, and visit the Benesse Art Site, Chichu Museum, and nearby Art House Project. Travel by ferry to Shikoku, and visit Takamatsu, the
former studio of Isamu Noguchi, and Ritsurin Garden. Conclude in Kyoto, where highlights include Philosopher’s Walk, Ryoan-ji Temple and its Garden of Emptiness, Kinkaku-ji Temple, Tenryu-ji, and an excursion to the Miho Museum. |
