Invest in the Art Institute—Contribute to the Annual Fund today.
A gift to the Annual Fund is an annual investment in the Art Institute and in the role the museum plays in inspiring the cultural life of Chicago. Every year the Art Institute sets an annual operating budget to sustain its mission to represent and display artworks from around the world. And every year the museum depends on the unrestricted dollars of the Annual Fund to offset this budget.
This year, the Art Institute embarks on its most important and exciting year with the opening of the Modern Wing. The new wing will increase the Art Institute’s footprint by 33%, bringing it to 1,000,000 square feet total, and making it the second largest museum in the nation. An additional 65,000 square feet of gallery space will enhance the presence of every collection throughout the museum, showcasing works of art that have never been on view before; for example, the number of contemporary works on display will increase by 90%. An additional 20,000 square feet of state-of-the-art education space will serve more than a million and a half visitors and schoolchildren each year.
To accomplish this, the museum’s staff and resources will be vigorously engaged in efforts to clean and reframe many of these works, maintain proper temperature and light regulation in the galleries, and provide exceptional education and exhibition programs. We have undertaken these significant improvements for the benefit of our members and the city, but we cannot accomplish them without you. Without your contribution to the Annual Fund, we could not meet our mission as a public museum.
