Access to the Libraries first requires admission to the Museum,
either by paying the admission fee or by showing a
membership card. Members, staff, and students of the following institutions and
organizations must have current identification (membership card, school ID, staff ID, etc.) in order to gain admission to the
Libraries. The Libraries are open to:
Art Institute of Chicago/School of the Art Institute of Chicago members and affiliates:
- Art Institute of Chicago (AIC) Staff, Volunteers and Members
- Members may be accompanied by one guest.
- Family membership is valid for any member of the immediate household.
- School of the Art Institute (SAIC) faculty, students, and alumni
- May be accompanied by one guest
- AIC and SAIC Staff Member’s family, with current AIC Family Pass
- May be accompanied by one guest
- Teachers enrolled in AIC Teacher Programs, members of Art Resources in Teaching, and teachers with a pass allowing free admission to the Museum and ID that identifies the individual as a teacher
Other:
- College and University students, faculty, and staff
- Individuals residing outside the six county Chicago metropolitan area (Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, and Will counties)
- Members of the following groups:
- American Association of Museums (AAM)
- Chicago Artists’ Coalition
- International Council of Museums (ICOM)
- Staff from the following local institutions and organizations
- Chicago Architecture Foundation, including Docents
- Chicago Community Trust
- Chicago Historical Society
- Chicago Park District (performing research for the Park District) and Park District affiliate Museums
- Commission on Chicago Landmarks
- Evanston Historical Society
- Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust
- Landmarks Preservation Council of Illinois
- MacArthur Foundation
- Museum of Contemporary Art
- Newberry Library
- Prairie Avenue House Museums
- Spertus Museum
- Terra Foundation
- Employees of Butterfields, Christie’s, Leslie Hindman, Sotheby’s, and Susanin’s
- Members of the Press, with valid press pass
- State, city and county government officials with an “Honored Guest Pass"
Visitors that don’t fit in any of the above categories may gain access by obtaining an Infopass from
any of the Chicago Public Libraries, the Suburban Library System, or a local college library. The Infopass allows one-day access to the Libraries.
