Advising Specialist, AAP*

Duties: The Academic Advising Specialist, AAP would serve two distinct but related segments of the academically at risk student population at SAIC: (1) students admitted to SAIC through the probationary Academic Access Program (AAP), that is students identified as at risk upon admission to SAIC, and (2) students who, owing to poor academic performance once enrolled at SAIC, prove themselves to be at risk, that is students whose standing shifts from good to warning or probation or suspension and including those students who are dismissed from SAIC but successfully appeal and are reinstated by the Academic Review Board. Some weekend work required for programs such as Orientation, Graduation and Admissions events.
Qualifications: BA or BFA required, Master’s Degree preferred. Must have experience with academic advising, student affairs or teaching college students. Background in art and design highly desirable. Knowledge of student development theory helpful. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Successful candidate is likely to have computer experience including Microsoft Office, specifically MS Excel and PeopleSoft.

Assistant Dean of Student Affairs for Residence Life

Duties: Lead all aspects of the 700+ bed Residence Life program including hiring, training and supervising 6 professional staff and more than 60 student employees. Manage all operations relating to the two residence halls, including: facilities management, policy development, revision and enforcement, and the conduct process, residence education and student development, and crisis management. Serve as the senior Residence Life administrator offering 24-hour on-call support for the professional staff and managing student crises/conduct in the residence halls as well as serve in the Dean’s On Call rotation to provide 24-hour support for Residence Life Professional Staff and off-campus students. As an Assistant Dean, manage and provide leadership and coordination for student crises for both on and off-campus students. Work with the retention team to research and develop a cohesive plan to provide support to students throughout their entire tenure at the School. Manage 3 operating budgets and develop and implement the Residence Hall Capital Asset budget. Liaison with important support services on campus, such as Security, Operations, Information Services and the Early College Program to support our resident population. As assigned and in the absence of the Vice President/Dean of Student Affairs and the Dean of Student Life, serve as the senior student affairs administrator on campus. Evening and weekend commitments are expected.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in college student personnel, counseling or related filed is required. Must have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in Residence Life. Experience in facilities management working with budgets and fiscal management. Experience in marketing programs and events. Must have experience working with students in a variety of situations, including student conduct and student crises. Must be sensitive to the needs of a diverse, urban, artists population. Must have demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, exhibit leadership and manage complex and sensitive crisis situations. Must have excellent decision-making abilities, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to provide a high-level of customer service within a demanding environment to a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to: students, parents, faculty, staff, campus leadership and external entities. Assistant Director of Cooperative Education

Assistant Director of Counseling Services

Coordinates the counseling of students in all aspects of their account including applying for and receiving financial aid, establishing payment arrangements and making payment on the account balance through various methods. Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions

Assistant Director of Graphic Design

Duties: The Assistant Director will work with The School of the Art Institute’s (SAIC) internal client groups to concept, design and produce leading edge printed, 3-dimensional, and internet-based materials for all areas of visual communication including marketing, advertising, catalogs, magazines, brochures, signage/way-finding systems, and exhibition and program graphics. Act as SAIC’s brand manager internally and externally, ensuring brand consistency across all mediums and applications. Collaborate with web and electronic communications team when transitioning print materials to web and online venues. Work with external vendors such as agencies, illustrators, photographers, and printers in art direction and production. Recruit and manage Graphic Designer and Student Interns, assign and evaluate work, monitor workload. Anticipate the visual communication needs of the school and spear-head new initiatives. Designs a variety of design projects and prepares materials and digital files to print for SAIC academic and administrative programs such as postcards, brochures, books, fliers, posters, signage, etc. Co-manage production schedules and operations of the graphics team, and work with communications staff and project managers throughout the school to ensure projects are completed on-time and within set budgets, including the review of specifications and bids from vendors. Remain current on design software and current design trends and developments, and marketing strategies. Promote a culture of innovation and teamwork.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Art/Design; Master’s degree preferred. Three to five years of experience in a professional design environment is required. Must possess an outstanding on-line portfolio. Skilled in design software, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, web applications. Requires knowledge of print production, coordination and general understanding of web design. Prior non-profit experience is a plus.

Associate Director Enrollment Info Systems & Marketing

Copywriter

Duties: Reporting to the Executive Director of Marketing and Graphics, the copywriter facilitates the production of written materials for the School of the Art Institute’s (SAIC) academic and administrative departments (client groups), from marketing and admissions to student life, alumni and development. Materials include, but are not limited to, direct mail pieces, brochures, books, ads, gallery guides, informational text, as well as the SAIC website, various monthly eNews, and publications. Write and edit for a wide variety of audiences; work to ensure all printed pieces and web content are on schedule and consistent with SAIC’s style and voice. Collaborate with communications staff to establish clear, creative, effective concepts for projects with an attention to detail. Review and advise on talking points (e.g., Governor’s talking at openings and events), press releases, and radio PSAs. Oversee multiple projects from concept through completion. Promote a culture of innovation and teamwork.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, art history, or marketing, or related experience requiring extensive writing and critique. At least 3 years experience in a professional museum, school or gallery environment. Solid background in proofreading, fact checking, copyediting, and writing using the tracking and reviewing features in Microsoft Word. Experience working with a creative team. Must be deadline driven. Thorough knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style. Proficient working in a Macintosh platform with related software programs including but not limited to InCopy and Microsoft Office.

Enrollment Analyst

Duties: Provides statistical information and analysis to support decision making for the admission, registrar and student financial services departments of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. This position is responsible for determining data requirements, identifying data sources, and developing data collection methods to create analytical reports for internal needs as well as state and federal statistical surveys. Executive Director of Campus Security

Duties: Provides overall direction and oversight and expertise for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) Campus Security Department including all aspects of security operations, facility access, equipment maintenance, budget development, asset and personnel security, technical services, information systems, training, investigations, and special event/exhibition security. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in management, criminal justice, or other closely related field preferred. A minimum of 7 -10 years of experience in a security related field. Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills in dealing with subordinates, supervisors, students, faculty, staff and the general public. Considerable knowledge of Campus Security policies and procedures. Basic working knowledge of budget preparation and fiscal management. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment and exhibit leadership in sensitive and emergency situations in making critical decisions. Familiarity and experience with state of the art security systems, e.g., scanners, cameras, facility access systems – mechanical and electronic locking systems, use and deployment of public address systems. Familiarity with evacuation procedures and the ability to work with outside emergency organizations. Experience on college/university campus is highly desirable. Marketing Coordinator

Participate in grant fulfillment and other contractual fulfillments related to press and marketing. Assist with departmental paperwork and team building sessions. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in the arts, public affairs/marketing, or a related field. Three years of experience in public relations, marketing, or a related field. Strong written and verbal skills. Knowledge of current art and higher education fields internationally, nationally and locally. Project Manager
Department: Instructional Resources & Facilities Management

Duties: Serve as the key coordinator of all activities of architecture, engineers, contractors and others regarding building construction, renovations, repairs, etc. Solicits bids, reviews contracts, manages and tracks construction progress and provides single contact with the above mentioned constituents. Consults with departments on various remodeling and construction projects. Reviews construction plans and specifications submitted by contractors or architects to insure compliance with the program and conformance with SAIC needs. Monitors performance against budget and communicates progress to superiors. Reviews shop drawings prepared by outside contractors and maintains complete project files.
Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture. Registration is a plus, but not required. Knowledge of Auto CAD experience, with a minimum of 1-3 years of drafting experience. Ability to use Auto CAD, not manage operators. Strong communication, management, negotiation and coaching skills with the ability to motivate and complete work through others. Highly developed time management and project management skills are needed. Must have at least three years of experience in project management. Must possess graphics and computer skills. Must be detail oriented and have a demonstrated ability to multi-task expertly.

Residence Hall Director – 162 N State

Duties: Responsible for managing a co-educational residence facility housing 550 students. Directly supervises student desk staff and co-supervises student Resident Advisors (RA) with Assistant Director of Residence Life. Responsible for co-curricular program development, serves as judicial officer while monitoring student conduct, and supervises Residential College programmatic student development efforts in the residence hall. Monitors and reports on building operation concerns with assigned facility.
