Assistant Dean of Student Affairs for Residence Life

Department: Residence Life

Duties: Lead all aspects of the 700+ bed Residence Life program including hiring, training and supervising 6 professional staff and more than 60 student employees. Manage all operations relating to the two residence halls, including: facilities management, policy development, revision and enforcement, and the conduct process, residence education and student development, and crisis management. Serve as the senior Residence Life administrator offering 24-hour on-call support for the professional staff and managing student crises/conduct in the residence halls as well as serve in the Dean’s On Call rotation to provide 24-hour support for Residence Life Professional Staff and off-campus students. As an Assistant Dean, manage and provide leadership and coordination for student crises for both on and off-campus students. Work with the retention team to research and develop a cohesive plan to provide support to students throughout their entire tenure at the School. Manage 3 operating budgets and develop and implement the Residence Hall Capital Asset budget. Liaison with important support services on campus, such as Security, Operations, Information Services and the Early College Program to support our resident population. As assigned and in the absence of the Vice President/Dean of Student Affairs and the Dean of Student Life, serve as the senior student affairs administrator on campus. Evening and weekend commitments are expected.

Qualifications: Master’s degree in college student personnel, counseling or related filed is required. Must have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in Residence Life. Experience in facilities management working with budgets and fiscal management. Experience in marketing programs and events. Must have experience working with students in a variety of situations, including student conduct and student crises. Must be sensitive to the needs of a diverse, urban, artists population. Must have demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, exhibit leadership and manage complex and sensitive crisis situations. Must have excellent decision-making abilities, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to provide a high-level of customer service within a demanding environment to a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to: students, parents, faculty, staff, campus leadership and external entities. Ability to effectively manage and supervise employees, including: organizing, prioritizing and scheduling work assignments; supervising individual employee’s response to students concerns; and attending to their professional development. Demonstrated skills in working within a highly-collaborative environment and ability to effectively create dynamic and strong teams. Excellent understanding of the most current issues in Student Affairs and higher education; including but not limited to: student development strategies and theories; and legal and risk-management issues. Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Must have great organizational skills and the ability to prioritize work. A successful candidate must be a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize strategies and tasks in an independent way. Evening and weekend commitments and some travel are required.

Assistant Director, Sullivan Fabrication Studio

Duties: Instructs students in all manners of fabricating furniture, scale models and art objects. Functions as a technical advisor to faculty, graduate students, undergraduate students and staff (70% of time spent teaching). Administers, supervises and directs the operations of the Sullivan Fabrication Studio and associated facilities (30% of time used for administration). Anticipates and recommends changes in instructional services to support curricular developments. Hires, trains and supervises all Sullivan Fabrication Studio Graduate Student Teaching Assistants and Sullivan Fabrication Studio Departmental Student Assistants. Researches and develops methods and procedures for the operation of the CNC router including software recommendations.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Studio Art or related field required, Masters preferred. Equivalent experience may be substituted. Extensive knowledge and experience using a wide variety of floor mounted and hand held power tools. Working knowledge of 3-D digital imaging and file preparation for CNC machining. Experience in plaster and mold making processes. Must have at least 2 years of supervisory experience in an industrial or educational facility. Teaching experience preferred. Strong managerial skills, including the ability to supervise and schedule staff, implement policies and procedures, order materials, and maintain budget. Ability to assist and instruct students in the safe and conceptual construction of projects. Excellent communication and organizational skills. Familiarity with office software including Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience working with Rhino and Rhinocam for CNC output. Experience repairing shop tools and equipment.

Associate Director of Tourism

Duties: Develops and executes strategic plan for increasing Art Institute share of tourism market for both groups and individuals.  Identify and analyze profitability of sales and communication channels that reach groups and individuals planning travel to Chicago from Midwest, US and abroad.  Create and execute strategic promotional partnerships and programs that improve market share and position the Art Institute as the #1 museum in Chicago for tourists.  Benchmark AIC tourist products, operations, pricing, and communications vs. competitive set.  Collaborate with internal departments to ensure AIC meets marketplace demand.  Develop and execute, in collaboration with Marketing and Visitor Services, consumer advance sale promotions that target Midwestern tourists.  Expand existing hotel program.  Oversee creation of promotional materials (e-mail, advertising, online, ephemera, trade show) that engage tourists and travel trade on a regular basis.

Qualifications: Must have at least five years of experience in marketing high end travel products.  Must possess superior sales and communication skills.  Must have excellent analytic and strategic leadership.  Must have the ability to speak on behalf of the museum and a deep understanding of travel trade.  Foreign language experience is preferred.  Operational/customer service experience is preferred.

eCommunications and Social Media Coordinator*

Duties: To create and track targeted and relevant email communications and campaigns for SAIC’s various departments and programs that effectively communicate, promote and encourage interaction for SAIC’s internal and external information, programs and events. The eCommunications Coordinator will also work closely with the Executive Director to coordinate social media site content to reinforce and enhance other email, communications and online initiatives to drive traffic to SAIC’s website and various events and initiatives. Create HTML email newsletters, e-vites and announcements for SAIC’s various departments and programs that reflect branded SAIC materials including image optimization preparation. Ensure the development, production, testing and delivery of email communications by required deadlines. Edit and proof all submitted copy to ensure accuracy, readability, effective calls to action and compliance with SAIC’s email policies. Maintain awareness of email marketing trends/technologies/CAN-SPAM laws. Track and report email and social media marketing metrics.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in online design and e-communications preferred. Two to five years of relevant professional experience is required. Strong knowledge of web and email design including CSS and HTML. High proficiency working in Dreamweaver, Adobe CS Design Suite, MS Word and MS Excel are required; knowledge of Flash and Final Cut Pro are helpful. Creative, energetic and knowledgeable about the latest email, social media and data integration best practices, and has a passion for demonstrating skill and precision in work. Must have strong verbal and writing/editing skills. Experience working with social media sites. Demonstrated ability to manage projects and achieve results working through and with others. Excellent time management, organizational and communication skills. Comfort level with rapid change in a fast paced environment.

Enrollment Analyst

Duties: Provides statistical information and analysis to support decision making for the admission, registrar and student financial services departments of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. This position is responsible for determining data requirements, identifying data sources, and developing data collection methods to create analytical reports for internal needs as well as state and federal statistical surveys. The incumbent will draw information from university databases (PeopleSoft), state and national datasets, survey results, statistical models, and other sources of factual information.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s preferred. Minimum of three years experience in statistical reporting, analysis and survey design required. Experience in higher education preferred. A strong interest in quantitative analysis and proficiency in Excel and Access. Experience with PeopleSoft preferred. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and high level of attention to detail.

International Student & Study Abroad Advisor

Duties: Assist Director of International Affairs in managing SAIC’s regulatory responsibilities related to admitting and enrolling international students; assist in planning and execution of SAIC’s study abroad and exchange programs. Serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) authorized by the Department of Homeland Security and as Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) authorized by the U. S. Department of State to review, issue and sign immigration documents. Responsible for monitoring over 500 students’ legal status and cross-cultural adjustment; complying with SAIC’s required SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) tracking and reporting; planning and executing programming and workshops; communicating and advocating on issues related to international education, students and exchanges across campus and to outside constituents such as SAIC’s partner institutions and professional organizations.

Qualifications: Bachelors in field related to international education required. One year of related internship or professional experience in international student services, or international education and exchange required. U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residence as required by the federal regulations for certification as a Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer; ideally with SEVIS, USCIS/DOS regulation and immigration law experience. Certification (19 hours) via NAFSA’s Professional Practice Workshops in F-1 and J-1 Regulations for Beginners preferred. Familiarity with SEVIS compliance issues and related (batch) software preferred. Demonstrated cross-cultural awareness and excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, faculty and staff in both one-on-one as well as group presentation settings. Ability to advocate for international students while communicating effectively with SAIC departments to ensure that the policies and goals of SAIC are consistently maintained. Detail-oriented approach to managing administrative tasks; proven ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Commitment to working with individuals of diverse cultural, racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Fluency in a second language preferred, in addition to personal experience studying or working internationally. Strong computer skills in a PC/Windows environment, including word-processing (Word), database management (PeopleSoft), and use of SEVIS batch processing software preferred, administrative computer systems, internet and electronic mail required; desktop publishing (PhotoShop) helpful.

Technical Support Administrator

Duties: Provides support for computer hardware, system software and network connectivity for SAIC administrative and academic departments. Orchestrates the repair of SAIC computers and related equipment. Assists departments and end-users in accessing institutional computing resources. Manages and administers several administrative and instructional servers. Coordinates Active Directory (AD) services such as Windows account activation, maintenance and basic administrative tasks in conjunction with CRIT Assistant Director of Academic Computing Technologies and Information Services Department. Administers instructional Active Directory domain and related license servers. Designs and tests AD group policy. Works with Assistant Director of Academic Computing Technologies to plan and implement changes in client support via automated scripts. Builds and tests software deployment packages for distribution via AD domain tree.

Qualifications: Intimate knowledge of Mac OS X, Windows 2000 and 2000 Server operating systems, Apple hardware and peripherals, and Intel-based hardware. Experience with Active Directory, Open Directory, LAN management, Unix management and support. Extensive working knowledge of Active Directory domain structures and practices. Understands function and system requirements of the software suite used in SAIC computer classrooms and administrative offices, including Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Apple Pro Apps, etc. Familiarity with OS X, Windows and UNIX concepts and command line tools. Knowledge of TCP/IP and general networking principals. Knowledge of Active Directory Domain structures and practices. Understanding of software distribution concepts and methodologies. Ability to diagnose problems and correct them with software or by instruction, where possible. Familiarity with maintenance programs such as Norton Utilities, DiskWarrior, Drive Image, etc.
