Assistant Director of Academic Advising and Student Success

Duties: Assist the Director in managing the Academic Advising & Student Success program and academic advisors at the School of the Art Institute. Advise degree-seeking students regarding course options, degree requirements, career counseling, school policies, personal concerns and other issues related to the educational process. Coordinate the Academic Standing process for degree students each semester. Manage student issues and crises. Manage the academic advisor offices in collaboration with the Director and other Student Affairs Staff. Some weekend work required for programs such as Orientation, Graduation and Admissions events.

Qualifications: BA/BFA is required; a Master’s degree is preferred. Must have experience with academic advising, student affairs or teaching college students. A background is art and design is highly desirable. Knowledge of student development theory helpful. Must have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills. Successful candidate will have knowledge of MS Office, specifically MS Excel; PeopleSoft preferred.

Assistant Director of Admissions

Duties: Responsible for representing the SAIC to prospective students in an assigned region, and for coordinating and carrying out the regional recruitment of new students. Visit an assigned minimum number of high schools within the territory to meet with art teachers and deliver presentations about SAIC. Visit a minimum number of community colleges to meet with art department faculty and deliver presentations emphasizing transfer opportunities at SAIC. Represent SAIC at designated events to deliver presentations about SAIC, and review portfolios of prospective students.

Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree in art or related field, and 2-3 years of experience in admissions is preferred.

Assistant Director of Disability & Learning Resources Center

Department: Disability & Learning Resources Center

Duties: Responsible for providing support services to students with disabilities and students who are academically at-risk through the Disability & Learning Resources Center. This position coordinates and conducts individual strategy training of both undergraduate and graduate students in tasks that include reading, organizational and study skills, test preparation and any other academic issues with which students present. Reviews documentation from students with disabilities and plans, organizes and evaluates appropriate remediation and accommodations. Collaborates with the School personnel in appropriately supporting at-risk students and accommodating students with disabilities as well as trying to raise awareness of disability issues and improve the accessibility of our School.

Qualifications: Two to four years of experience in the field of learning disabilities and higher education, and a Masters degree in special education, psychology or related field required. Knowledge of the ADA and Section 504. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.

Assistant Director of Graduate Admissions

Assistant Director, Community Programs

Department: Interpretive Exhibits & Family Programs

Duties: In consultation with the Director of Interpretive Exhibitions and Family Programs, develop and implement strategies and programs that attract and serve existing and new family audiences in diverse communities. Oversee planning and partnership programs with the Chicago Park District, the Chicago Public Library, and other appropriate civic and community organizations. Manage teaching staff who implement programs in community centers and at the museum; Prepare budgets and monitor expenditures for community partnership programs; Develop proposals and reports on community programs as needed; Attend and represent the Art Institute at external meetings deemed appropriate with education, cultural, and local community groups. Work with Family Programs staff to oversee successful implementation of family festivals to generate awareness of and access to the museum. Qualifications: Masters degree in arts, education, or humanities. At least five years experience working in a museum or arts organization with some of that time involved in program development for diverse audiences of all ages. Spanish language speaking and writing skills highly desirable. Able to lift boxes with art materials for programs; must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Assistant Director, Museum Operations

Budget Analyst

Duties: Responsible for the distribution, collection and system input of all budget worksheets at the museum. Monitors and compares actual museum operating results to budget. Insures that annual operating budgets and quarterly estimates are properly recorded in the PeopleSoft system. Provides support in the budgeting process by maintaining key analyses. Aids in the fiscal year end, quarterly and month-end closing process and partakes in the preparation of annual external audit related work papers. Compiles and maintains key statistical data including but not limited to peer data on attendance and memberships. Working with the Vice President of Museum Finance and the Controller’s Office, ensures that museum affiliate groups are in compliance with financial policies of the Institute.

Qualifications: Bachelor degree in business, accounting, or related field. Minimum 3-5 years accounting experience, specifically in a not-for-profit setting. Coordinator Senior Programs

Duties: Provides support to assistant director, senior programs, in planning and implementation of Art Insights, an outreach program for seniors; an annual event, Senior Celebrations, for 1,400 seniors; and Elderhostel, a weeklong, on-site lecture program for groups of 40+ seniors, 20 weeks per year. Director of Early College Program

Department: Summer, Early College, Teacher Programs

Duties: The Director is the academic leader responsible for ensuring the integrity and success of all ECP courses; fall, spring, and summer. Interviews, hires, establish salary, supervise and evaluate 45+ Early College Program faculty teaching 90+ courses a year. Establishes and oversees all course offerings including developing new course areas that meet student interests and reaches new enrollment markets. Hires and supervises 35+ graduate teaching-assistants a year. Develops and manages over 75 yearly weekend and evening non-course one-day workshops designed to increase student satisfaction and generate enrollment interest. Responsible for setting the workshop schedule, hiring faculty, and developing new initiatives. Directs and oversees the development, production and distribution of all marketing materials plus web-site oversight. Establishes and oversees policies and procedures that ensure the safety of over 300 minors in residence each summer. Serves as the face and voice of the program during visits to area schools; volunteers as judge of local and regional art exhibitions; establishes recruiting schedule and participates in weekend National Portfolio Days around the country. Seeks outside funding opportunities to support program enrollment and outreach goals. Oversees all department student services responsibilities including: registration policies and procedures and financial aid guidelines.

Qualifications: Advanced degree is required. Must have 7 to 9 years of experience in a directly related field. Knowledge of education related to high schools students a must. Must be able to direct and manage a large academic program. Must be able to supervise and manage faculty and staff, and build relationships with schools, students and parents.

Director of Risk Management

Duties: Protects the assets of The Art Institute by taking a methodical approach to identification, prevention, control and management of known and unknown risks of financial and property losses, which is to include but is not limited to; health and fire safety, criminal background checks and internal investigations.  Accountable for the analysis and determination of appropriate retained liability levels and alternative risk assessments, specifically in reviewing building and art insurance levels and contracts as well as liability levels for all contracts with the museum and school.  Responsible for effective loss prevention programs that result in more proactive prevention, detection and resolution of both internal and external sources of loss.  Will develop and recommend policies and procedures concerning corporate risk management with a goal of reducing insurance costs and losses.  Will manage insurance purchase process, including the procurement of policies.  Responsible for ensuring that insurance carriers are notified of all claims pursuant to the terms and conditions of the applicable insurance policies.  Will review insurance and liability levels for all contracts with the AIC and collect waivers from all contractors.  Will coordinate and confirm that appropriate strategies are in place to ensure that both internal and external investigations are brought to successful conclusion.

Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Risk Management, Business Administration or equivalent experience.  At least ten years of experience in a risk management and safety compliance environment is strongly desired, coupled with experience in conducting internal investigations.  Knowledge of risk management principles with practical experience.  Track record of providing oversight, integration and monitoring of enterprise risks.  Ability to manage confidential information.  Interviewing and investigation experience.  Proven problem solving skills and ability to make sound judgment/decisions.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite necessary.  Must have excellent communication skills, customer service/public relations, and oral and written communication skills.

Manager for lectures and performance programs

Duties: The Manager for Lectures and Performance Programs assists the Creative Director for Lectures and Performance Programs and the Museum Director and President in administering performance programs and scholarly lectures. Events may include readings, lectures, concerts, plays, festivals and special presentations by scholars. Responsibilities include identifying and resolving any scheduling conflicts within the museum; arranging for necessary support for performance programs and lectures from museum security, visitor services, dining and special events, housekeeping, audio-visual, museum education and curatorial staff; developing, implementing and monitoring the budget for lectures and performance programs to stay within budget; assisting visiting artists and scholars with their needs for travel and hotel arrangements; ensuring that all necessary contracts are completed in a timely fashion, prior to any event ; ensuring that production arrangements are completed; assisting with productions as needed such as running the light board and slide cues. The Manager must be capable of working well with performing artists, visual artists and literary scholars of national and international repute.

Qualifications: B.A. in art history required. Proven experience in stage production. Proven excellent administrative, organizational skills; ability to relate comfortably to scholarly individuals, performers, tech and support staff personnel and the public; ability to appreciate and adapt to various cultural courtesies when working with international talent and audience groups. Proven strong writing and art research capability. Computer skills including working with Excel, PowerPoint preparation. Position requires weekend and evening work.

Manager of Resource Administration & Procurement
