Naturally Engaged
October 31, 2009–January 3, 2010
Gallery 108

Overview: For the traditional Chinese painter, landscape signified more than a scenic backdrop for human pursuits and pastimes; it embodied deeply held beliefs about man’s essential place in the natural world. This cultured perspective is exhibited in paintings of majestic vistas and private gardens. Some subjects are drawn from history, poetry, or legend; others embody personal and intellectual ideals.
