After submitting an application and receiving a reservation confirmation from the Division of Student Programs, teachers should:

  • View two new streaming videos, “Your Museum Visit” and “Model Gallery Teaching”, with students. The videos will help students and teachers prepare for their trip to the Art Institute and provide a preview of the museum experience. “Model Gallery Teaching” will also help teachers planning to guide their own students through the museum to create an effective self-conducted experience. This video demonstrates how to connect objects on a tour thematically and how to engage students in discussion about works of art.

  • Read the Planning Your Visit brochure you received with your e-mailed confirmation. Discuss the rules and regulations in advance with your students and chaperones to ensure a quality visit for your students and other museum visitors.
  • Review the floor plan of the museum online to plan a teacher-led tour route. Please note that works on view are subject to change.
