Museum Education offers multiple opportunities for students or adults to become involved with Lifelong Learning at the Art Institute of Chicago.
Exploritas Volunteer
The Art Institute has proudly been hosting Exploritas programs for nearly 20 years. Exploritas is an international educational travel organization. Approximately 15 weeks per year, visitors come from all over the US and abroad to spend a week in residence at the Art Institute for an immersive education exploration of the museum's collection. The Art Institute Exploritas group size ranges from 20 to 40 participants per weeklong program. The Exploritas season runs from March through December, approximately 15 weeks per year. The Exploritas volunteer is generally scheduled to work Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday/Friday, but scheduling is flexible. Responsibilities include enjoying breakfast with the participants at 8:30-9:30 a.m., escorting the group from the hotel to the Art Institute for early entry, reporting any concerns to the supervising Museum Education staff, assist with escorting the group to lunch, and engaging with the Exploritas participants to maintain a casual and enjoyable atmosphere for the week. The volunteer may also be expected to assist participants with special physical needs, as needed, and prepare informational packets for Exploritas participants. Additional benefits beyond breakfast include morning private gallery talks on the museum's collection, lunch at Sonny's Deli, and all other benefits eligible to Art Institute volunteers.
