Henri Edmond Cross
French, 1856-1910
Henri Edmond Cross, like his friend Paul Signac, is best known for his masterful use of the divisionist technique. His later neo-impressionist landscapes are marked by intense color harmonies that were key to the development of fauvism. Cross, along with Signac, was one of the founders of the Salon des Indépendants in 1884. Plagued with rheumatism, he moved from Paris to the south of France in 1891, but continued to exhibit in the French capital.
