Inscriptions

Inscribed by the artist on one leaf: [Painted] in the winter of the yiwei year, the twenty-first year of the Guangxu era [November 1895 – February 1896], Xugu Comments by Jacqueline Chao, 2013: Inscribed by the artist Xu Gu on the last painted leaf: "[Painted] in the winter of the yiwei year, the twenty-first year of the Guangxu era [November 1895 – February 1896], Xu Gu." The calligraphic inscriptions are each signed by Chen Xiuyu in variations of “Chen Xiuyu”, “Xiuyu”, or his style name “Xingbai”. Two of Chen’s calligraphic inscriptions are dated to the year dingyou (1897), summer, fifth month. Chinese Names: Xu Gu 虛谷 Chen Xiuyu 陳修榆 Liu Songfu 劉松甫
