About this artwork
Jean de Gourmont I was born in Carquebut, in the Manche region, into a family of artists that included painters, engravers, printers, and producers of books. It is believed that he was also trained as a goldsmith and woodcutter, but he eventually abandoned these trades in favor of painting and engraving.
