About this artwork

This paper-thin glass vase represents a technological feat of glassblowing. After being created, but while the dark amber molten glass was still soft, the form was rolled or dipped in colored powdered glass to decorate the exterior. Threads of molten glass were then swirled on the exterior to create the design. The whole vase was reheated almost to the melting point and then slowly cooled in a controlled environment to prevent stress cracks.
