Jean Metzinger
French, 1883–1956

About this artwork

This fully realized drawing was made by the artist after the painting Woman with a Fan. Typically, Metzinger employed several Cubist devices: the woman’s face and clothing are reduced to basic shapes, and the figure is divided into planar sections. The simultaneous representation of several views is also present, so that the woman seems to be viewed both frontally and in profile.
