Bought from the artist by Durand-Ruel, Paris and New York on August 25, 1891 for 1,000 francs [according to Tokyo 1979]; sold to Martin A. Ryerson (died 1932), Chicago on February 17, 1915 for $ 7,500 [Durand-Ruel stock no. 1721, information kindly provided by Caroline Durand-Ruel Godfroy, 1995]; bequeathed to the Art Institute, 1933.
