Reinforcing Buffe with Tilting Targe in the German Manner, 1560

A Buffe with Tilting Targe is a two-piece device which is bolted to the armor for a joust with lances over a fence (tilt). It gave additional protection on the left side, most vulnerable to the opponent's lance. At the same time this cross-barred targe helped to score a hit by preventing the lance from sliding
