500 Ways of Looking at Modern

W. B. Yeats, U.S. expatriate Ezra Pound, Rainer Maria Rilke, and others revolutionized poetic practices as novelists James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, Thomas Mann, et al., wrote their characters' minds. Artists including Beauford Delaney and Max Beckmann explored self portraits reflecting the stresses and strains of a modern age. Goodman Theatre actors bring the literary passages to life.

Presented by Poetry Foundation and the Art Institute of Chicago.
