The Modern Wing

Join museum leaders, city officials, and Renzo Piano, architect of the Modern Wing, at the new building's civic dedication at 9:00 a.m. on Monroe Street. At 10:00 a.m., the ribbon is officially cut and the Modern Wing opens to the public!

Daylong festivities spill onto Monroe Street. An outdoor stage features performances by Swing Gitan, Muntu Dance Theatre Chicago, the Maxwell Street Klezmer Band, Wooten Ensemble, and L'Orchestre Super Vitesse. Performances by Hubbard Street Dance Chicago at 11:00 a.m. and internationally renowned musicians continue in galleries throughout the entire museum. Stop by the new Ryan Education Center to make art with your kids or grandkids, and talk with a lecturer to learn about the art in our newest galleries--you might even learn new facts about an old favorite. Inside and out, the Art Institute will be filled with art, music, dance, and life.
