Girls on the Verge: Portraits of Adolescence

Due to unavoidable circumstances, Lauren Greenfield will not be able to be at the Art Institute of Chicago this evening. The following program will take place instead:

  • Elizabeth Siegel, curator of Girls on the Verge: Portraits of Adolescence, will provide a brief overview on the exhibition.
  • A short video lecture on Lauren Greenfield's work, produced by Greenfield especially for the Art Institute, will be screened.
  • Greenfield's documentary short Kids and Money (32 minutes) will be shown. In it, Greenfield chats with young people from diverse Los Angeles communities about the role of money in their lives. From rich to poor, Pacific Palisades to East L.A., kids address how they are shaped by a culture of consumerism. Kids and Money recently debuted in this year's Sundance Film Festival and will air on HBO this fall; this is the Chicago premiere of the film.

Following the program, Elizabeth Siegel and Frank Evers, managing director of the photography cooperative VII and Greenfield’s husband, will answer questions.
