Sacred Objects, Cosmic Vision in the Ancient Amerindian World
11/1, 6-7 p.m. Fullerton Hall Free

On November 1 at 6:00, Kent Reilly, a noted scholar of Mesoamerican and North American Indian art, will present new findings on imagery from early civilization in our Midwest and South. Figures of legendary heroes and mythological creatures show how ancient rulers legitimized their power through visual art, reflecting access to supernatural power. This way of asserting a "political charter" featured cosmic signs and symbols as settings where rituals of state were enacted. Please be sure to visit Gallery 50, where related works of art are newly displayed.
