This collaboration between the Art Institute and the Smart Museum of Art at the University of Chicago begins on Friday evening at 6:00 with the lecture "The Object of and in Islamic Art" by keynote speaker Oleg Grabar, professor emeritus of the Institute for Advanced Study in the School of Historical Studies, Princeton University. On Saturday a full-day symposium at the Smart Museum of Art features discussions of the history, use, and meaning of ornament in Islamic art by leading scholars.
