The Publications Department of the Art Institute of Chicago, a publisher of books since the museum’s inception in the late 19th century, offers titles focused on the museum’s rich collection, history, and exhibitions. The booklist featured in these pages serves many audiences, from children and families to students and scholars. In addition to gallery guides, picture books, and exhibition catalogues, the department produces a semiannual themed journal, Museum Studies, in which curatorial staff and other scholars write about aspects of the collection. The Art Institute’s publications have received numerous prizes and are distributed nationally and internationally.
