Art Institute presents first solo exhibition of architect Douglas Garofalo

The Art Institute of Chicago highlights the career of contemporary architect (and Chicagoan) Douglas Garofalo in his first solo exhibition, on view in the Kisho Kurokawa Gallery of Architecture (G. 227), from June 15 to October 8, 2006. The exhibition Douglas Garofalo showcases his multiple forms of architectural representation, including computer animation, diagrams, plans, and models. The scale of Garofalo's work is as broad as his media and demonstrates his range as a designer: his portfolio includes single-family residences, institutional buildings, and urban-scale designs. His work has never before been seen so comprehensively.

Art Institute announces new hours and admission policies

Newly extended museum hours and free hours throughout the year.
Eliminated admission fee for children under 12.
Full admission now required.

The Art Institute of Chicago has announced plans to overhaul its hours of operation, free days, and suggested admission fee. The adjustments will go into effect June 3, 2006, and were approved by the Chicago Park District Board on April 19, 2006. All revisions are designed to make the museum more accessible to families and Chicagoans, particularly given all theactivities during the summer in the Loop, on the lakefront, and in Millennium Park. Award for Teacher Manual

The Committee on Education of the American Association of Museums has named ABCs of Art: A Guide for Early Childhood Educators winner of the 2006 Award for Excellence in Published Resouces. The manual invites teachers to use the Art Institute as a learning environment outside of the traditional setting for preschoolers through grade 3. The book includes 12 color posters and is available for purchase online.
