Vice President of Marketing and Public Affairs Carrie Heinonen announced today the appointment of Erin Hogan to the position of Director of Public Affairs for the museum. Commenting on the appointment, Heinonen said: "Erin's expertise in publicity and her strong background in art history make her ideally suited to step into this role and ensure that the Art Institute, its programs, and its exhibitions are well represented in the media."
For the past eight years, Hogan has worked as a publicist at the University of Chicago Press, one of the largest American university presses, and most recently held the position of promotions and associate marketing director. She has worked directly on high-profile projects such as the Encyclopedia of Chicago, the 15th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style, two collections of Mike Royko's columns, the National Book Award finalist The Collaborator by Alice Kaplan, and various institutional initiatives. She has also been an active member of the Association of American University Presses, leading conference panels and workshops on publicity.
Erin Hogan received her bachelor of arts degree in art history and German literature from Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts, where she was also a curatorial assistant at the college museum. After two years working in educational publishing, she moved to Chicago to pursue graduate studies in art history. She received her M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of Chicago, with a specialization in American painting of the 20th century. During graduate school she taught at both the University of Chicago and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and was an adjunct lecturer for the Department of Museum Education at the Art Institute of Chicago. Her reviews and essays have appeared in such publications as the Chicago Reader, American Scholar, and Modernism/Modernity, and she is a contributor to several exhibition catalogs.
